“Off the Strip” usually means one of two things: cheaper than a resort steakhouse, or less touristy. Neither is guaranteed. What we can give you is the published facts for six steakhouses away from the resort corridor, each checked on its own website on November 1, 2026.
Short answer: For late nights, Herbs & Rye (until 3 AM, Monday to Saturday). For old-Vegas history, the Golden Steer (since 1958) or Oscar’s downtown. For a dress-up dinner, Michael’s at South Point (business attire). For a steakhouse with its own butcher counter, Echo & Rig.
Where each one is
| Area | Steakhouse |
|---|---|
| Downtown (Fremont area) | Oscar’s Steakhouse, Plaza Hotel & Casino |
| West Sahara, near the north Strip | Golden Steer; Herbs & Rye |
| Summerlin side (Rampart Blvd) | Echo & Rig, Tivoli Village |
| Northwest | Bob Taylor’s Ranch House |
| South, past the Strip | Michael’s Gourmet Room, South Point |
Old-Vegas history, as the venues tell it
- Golden Steer says it opened in 1958, calls itself the city’s oldest steakhouse, and says the Rat Pack had a regular corner there. See our Golden Steer guide for its menu prices and rules.
- Oscar’s is named for former mayor Oscar Goodman, and the Plaza bills it as “The Happiest Steakhouse in the Universe,” a nod to Goodman’s nickname.
- Herbs & Rye lists itself as established in 2009 and leads with cocktails as much as steak.
- Michael’s Gourmet Room lists tableside salads, a pastry cart and a business-attire dress code.
What locals say online
In an r/vegaslocals thread asking for the best off-Strip steakhouse, one poster said they’d already tried Michael’s at South Point, Del Frisco’s, Herbs & Rye and Oscar’s at the Plaza, and wanted more ideas. In an r/LasVegas thread looking for a “non tourist” steakhouse, commenters suggested Oscar’s, the Golden Steer and Morton’s. These are paraphrased from search results and represent individual posters, not a consensus.
Strip or off-Strip?
